Where to stay in Skye: Bealach Uige Bothy
We first stayed at Joanna's Bealach Uige back in November 2015. We loved it so much that since then we returned twice to stay at her new self-catering Bothy, and already planning another visit. The Bothy is located in the small village of Staffin, just a short drive away from the Old Man of Storr and the Kilt Rock. Staffin beach and the Quiraing are also nearby. The perfect pad to start exploring Skye from!
The interior is bright, light and airy and fully reflects Joanna's love for the midcentury modern style. The bedroom is spacious, with a large and super-comfy bed and a wee seating area, great for reading a book or playing dominos. On sunny summer evenings you can also sit outside at the decking area and admire the Bothy's uninterrupted views over the Quiraing.
The Bothy's kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need and Joanna also provides a starter pack with the basics. Handy if you forgot to buy milk or bread! I was lucky to have my favourite chef, Mr Enthusiast with me and we thoroughly enjoyed the Staffin bay views at breakfast from the kitchen window.
Our host provided us with local maps and guidebooks including a pocket guide of Skye coastal and country walks - the perfect bedtime read to plan the day ahead. Joanna also gave us useful tips and recommendations whenever we needed some help.
You can book the Bothy via Airbnb or just contact Joanna directly via e-mail at jojomackinnon@hotmail.com. If her amazing taste in interiors has inspired you, follow her on Instagram via @bealach_uige_bothy.
