Restaurant Review: Vapiano
Last Saturday Mr Enthusiast and I were kindly invited to visit Edinburgh's new Vapiano restaurant at South St David Street. The restaurant has been open since late 2017 and it's located right opposite Jenners, just next to Tk Maxx. It's not visible from the outside, but it has 3 floors and an elevator too. On the ground floor you will find antipasti and pizza, at level minus one there's a bar area and at level minus two there is pasta. When entering the restaurant, you receive a Vapiano card which you will use for all of your orders - so simple and convenient!
We are not newbies to Vapiano, having visited several of their restaurants around Europe. Back in 2008 when we started dating with Mr Enthusiast, I happened to rent a flat next to Vapiano in Tallinn and we quickly became regulars. Then I moved to Warsaw for work and Vapiano followed me, they opened one right next to the office. I'm surprised it took them this long to follow me to Edinburgh, but I'm glad they are finally here.
Starter
We started our meal with a delicious antiplasti platter which we shared. It had some lovely charcuterie, mozzarella and hard cheese, grilled vegetables, bruschettas and some extra bread to go with it. Yum!
Main
For main Mr Enthusiast went for a Cappriciosa pizza topped with ham, mushrooms and artichoke. I took the lift straight to level minus two to the pasta section and watched while chef Douglas prepared my bolognese with campanelle (my favourite pasta shape). Did you know that they make all the fresh pasta on site and you can choose from various shapes?
Dessert
Both Mr Enthusiast and I have sweet tooth and we always try to make sure there is enough space left for dessert in our stomachs. I picked a classic Italian dessert from the menu: tiramisu. Mr Enthusiast went for ice cream as it was one of the hottest days we've had this spring!
We had a lovely dinner at Vapiano and would thoroughly recommend visiting the restaurant if you have not been yet. It's perfect for a quick pizza before catching a train at Waverley, a weekday lunch with colleagues, weekend treat for the kids or before a night out with friends. They have recently launched a mobile app which makes ordering your food even more convenient. If you don't fancy leaving your couch and Netflix, you can also order from Vapiano via Deliveroo and UberEats.
